San Francisco Airport Museums to Host Flight Attendant Symposium
Three-Day Seminar at SFO Focuses on the History and Development of the Flight Attendant Career

SAN FRANCISCO -- In recognition of the historic and vital role that flight attendants have played in the development and success of the air travel industry, from November 30 to December 2, 2004, the San Francisco Airport Museums will present a symposium focusing on the career of the professional flight attendant.

This three-day symposium is designed to provide an educational forum for in-depth focus on the subject by bringing together experts in the field and related disciplines with members of the profession and the general public. Scheduled speakers include Patricia Friend, the International President of the Association of Flight Attendants; Alan Blum, MD, Director, University of Alabama Center for the Study of Tobacco and Society; and Sara Dornacker, President, United Airlines Historical Foundation.

The symposium will begin with a reception on the evening of November 30, followed by lecture and panel discussion sessions on December 1 and 2. Session topics will include: historical perspectives celebrating the development of the profession; the evolution of the profession’s labor organization; occupational health and medical issues; legacy preservation; and current challenges facing today’s members of the profession. A schedule of symposium sessions is attached.
