The AIDS Memorial Quilt
The AIDS Memorial Quilt is a heartfelt and powerful reminder of the ongoing AIDS epidemic. Commonly referred to as the Quilt, it is intended to raise awareness of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), the most advanced stage of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Through panel making in homes and workshops and interaction at public displays, the Quilt promotes activism, encourages education, and provides emotional healing for those affected by the disease. With approximately 50,000 panels dedicated to more than 110,000 AIDS victims, the Quilt is the world’s largest community art project. This exhibition will present six blocks of the Quilt along with objects and photographs from the National AIDS Memorial.
