Martha H 2004

Richard Shaw has long been associated with two well-known regional art styles: Bay Area Funk and the ceramic sculpture movement. In Bay Area tradition, he combines the commonplace and mundane with whimsical humor to create artworks that are both comically surreal and poetic. Shaw fashons his works out of porcelain and then uses many glazing techniques to increase their realism. Martha H is a tribute to the artist’s wife, who is an artist, musician, and mother of five children.
