Larry Kirkland created large, aerial sculptures that are characterized by their nearly transparent, ethereal quality. This work was conceived by Kirkland after he spent time observing airport activities from an air traffic control room. Each of the 1500 elements suspended by 3000 wires represents an air traffic control symbol: triangles (landmarks), dotted lines (land boundaries), and x’s (flying objects).
